I'M NOT A SAINT, WHATEVER THEY SAY! - MUSICAL READING
    Marie-Christine Barrault & Jacqueline Bourgés-Maunoury

Independence came at a price: George Sand suffered, worked like a dog, but she loved: "Vivre, que c'est doux! How good it is, in spite of sorrows, husbands, boredom, debts, gossip... Living is intoxicating! To love and be loved is happiness! It's heaven! (1831)."

Independence came at a price: George Sand suffered, worked like a dog, but she loved: "Vivre, que c'est doux! How good it is, in spite of sorrows, husbands, boredom, debts, gossip... Living is intoxicating! To love and be loved is happiness! It's heaven! (1831)."
This musical reading, performed by Marie-Christine Barrault and pianist Jacqueline Bourgès-Maunoury, is adapted by Aude de Tocqueville from George Sand's diary.

    About the artists :
Marie-Christine Barrault began her career in theater and television after graduating from the Paris Conservatoire d'Art Dramatique in 1965. She defended texts by Max Frish, Corneille, Nathalie Sarraute, Paul Claudel, Anton Tchekhov, Eugène O'Neill, Marguerite Duras..., under the guidance of demanding directors such as Gabriel Garran, Roger Planchon, Raymond Rouleau, Jacques Rosner... She was constantly on stage, alternating between various texts, and also recorded songs and musical tales. In 2022 and 2023, she was at the Odéon, in Une Mort dans la famille, written and directed by Alexander Zeldin.

Pianist Jacqueline Bourgès-Maunoury holds a Premier Prix de Virtuosité from the Geneva Conservatoire and a Licence de Concert from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, with the highest distinctions. Close to the great Polish tradition through her work with Jean Fassina, she was noticed by György Cziffra, who offered her the first part of one of his recitals. Since then, in association with such great names as Jean-Pierre Wallez, Susan Graham, Marie-Christine Barrault, Lambert Wilson and Dame Felicity Lott, her career has taken her to the most prestigious venues. She is a guest at numerous festivals, and her recordings have received unanimous critical acclaim. Her opus Variations des Cimes won Piano Magazine's "Maestro" award.

Aude de Tocqueville has written numerous artistic and historical books. Since 2010, she has been working on rediscovering the painter and photographer Georges Gasté, through a biography, exhibitions and, in the theatrical field, a play, Garde tes songes, as well as a monologue, Le Bain des brahmines. For the stage, she has also adapted Reynaldo Hahn's correspondence with Marcel Proust: Une amitié en musique.
