Bordered by the Pacific and traversed by the Andes, Ecuador is an exceptional land that boasts some of the greatest biodiversity on the globe. With a variety of ecosystems ranging from sea level to over 6,000 metres above sea level, the country is home to a density of plant and animal species that is unique in the world. This natural diversity is complemented by a significant ethnic mosaic made up of Mestizos (descendants of Spanish and Amerindian ancestors) and indigenous groups.
Its biodiversity is threatened by climate change and the exploitation of natural resources. To counter these threats, many Ecuadorians are resisting. In the cloud forests of the Choco, groups are protecting the environment from Andean bears.
In the Amazon, communities are campaigning to curb oil exploitation. Around Chimborazo, the Kichwas are concerned about the retreat of the glaciers. We must also highlight the passion of the country's farmers, who grow some of the best cocoa in the world!
Meet a people committed to protecting their land and traditions. Preservation, transmission and continuity are the guiding principles of this adventure!
