Armenia boasts both magnificent scenery and an exceptional artistic and cultural heritage. Thousands of monasteries, fortresses and chapels dot the mountains.
The emblematic khatchkars, literally cross-stones, dot the landscape. This art form is on UNESCO's list of the world's intangible cultural heritage.
This wildly beautiful mountain world resonates with founding myths, under the protective gaze of Mount Ararat.
We'll also meet the Armenian people.
We'll taste lavash (traditional bread) and toast friendship with France.
We'll also talk about this martyred land, which bears the scars of the 1915 genocide, earthquakes and several conflicts. Nagorno-Karabakh, a Christian enclave in a Muslim land, has shown extraordinary courage.
We visit Yerevan, the "pink city", dressed all in tuff. Draped in Oriental charm, the vibrant capital is a dynamic Western city. Buildings for busy businessmen and cafés for trendy young people abound.
