Life at the resort is marked by many festive occasions in the course of the year.
In spring, the season begins with a kite-flying festival, which attracts over 200 enthusiasts from France and farther afield to Châtelaillon beach.
In June, for the space of a weekend, the town is transformed by the colours and rhythms of a well-chosen theme: India, Latin America, and this year Venice. This is Châtel in party mood.
In August, the shellfish and oyster-farming traditions are in the spotlight, with the Fête des Boucholeurs. And at Christmas, the story of the nativity is told in light and music.

Friday, July 13, 2012 Châtelaillon-Plage celebrates France’s republican tradition
- 9pm., rendezvous in front of the town hall for lanterns to be distributed;
- 10pm. start of torchlight procession to the harbour; 11pm. firework display.
The party will continue until 11.30pm. in the town park, with music by accordionist Jérôme Richard.

August is the time to celebrate local heritage and tradition.
The programme includes traditional games on the foreshore, football in the mud, punting, a giant clam bake, and stalls selling regional produce. Other activities include the singing of sea shanties and dancing.

In 2012, Châtelaillon-Plage awaits you on the green installed on the beach.

Every Tuesday and Friday in summer is party time at Châtelaillon-Plage
Free concert in the beachside gardens every Tuesday during the season, starting at 9pm.
Groups performing reggae, jazz, funk and other musical styles, for a great evening in the open air.
On Fridays, dancing is on the agenda, beginning at 9.30pm. in the beachside gardens with bands performing live. There will be eight dance evenings with two bands performing, the programme to included one-and-a-half hours of French and international variety, as well as traditional javas and waltzes.

Finally, there are the Christmas and New Year festivities, with Châtelaillon-Plage’s famous “live crib”.
This is a unique event in Charente-Maritime, bringing to life the Christmas story. At nightfall, with the help of an ox, an ass and a number of lambs, 50 local actors sketch out the events involving Mary and Joseph and the birth of Christ.
The dramatisation, directed by Pierre Raguy and Jean-Pierre Compain, recreates the moving and mystical atmosphere of the first Christmas Eve.
