Markets in Châtelaillon-Plage
A holiday is also an opportunity to try the gastronomic specialities of the Charente-Maritime region and to find out about local crafts.
With Châtelaillon’s indoor market, open throughout the year, two weekly markets and a late-night market on Sunday evening, there is plenty of opportunity to try all the local specialities. Oysters, mussels, shellfish, pineau (a brandy-based drink) and other local wines are very much on the agenda.
Indoor market
In the town centre of Châtelaillon-Plage, in the appropriately named Rue du Marché, this market is open every morning.
Fishmongers, greengrocers, cheese merchants are there every day selling fresh produce from land and sea under the high roof.
Opening hours:
› 1 May to 30 September: every day from 7am to 1pm.
› October to April: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7am to 1pm.
Street markets
On Tuesdays and Fridays, from 8am, stallholders set up shop along the town’s central avenue: Boulevard De Lattre de Tassigny et de la Liberation. More than 100 stallholders and craftspeople display their wares. Wandering among the attractive displays and finding out about our local specialities is one of the most enjoyable aspects of a good holiday.
Late-night market
Examine the workmanship of craftsmen from the local area and further afield on Sunday evenings along the seafront.
